Sierra Nevada, Granada
Sierra Nevada is the ski resort of Andalusia and considered one of the best in Spain. It is located in the Penibetic mountain ranges of Andalusia, in a huge mountain chain connected to the city of at a distance of 40 kilometres. In the mountain range stand out two of the highest peaks of the peninsula: Mulhacen with 3482 meters height and Veleta with 3398 meters.
Pradollano
Pradollano is the centre of the ski resort of Sierra Nevada; after your trip from Malaga or Granada you get there. The small village of Pradollano has just about 250 inhabitants and has all essential services and shops to enjoy a weekend in Sierra Nevada. The area has many hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, lockers, ski-pass purchase, equipment rental shops for both ski and snowboarding and accessories of all kinds.
The slopes
Skiing and snowboarding, the favourite sports in Sierra Nevada, are two disciplines that are enjoyed thanks to the great variety of forms and levels of slopes in the ski resort. There are also different skiing modalities such as alpine ski and cross country skiing or shorter skis called snowblades. For both sports keep in mind the possibility of hiring an instructor or monitor, very useful for your first contact at the Borreguiles slope or to improve your skills.
During certain months of the winter season are enabled slopes for night snowboarding or skiing between 7 pm and 9:30 pm on some Saturday nights. As a prerequisite you will need a special ski-pass.
In the recreational area of Mirlo Blanco situated in Pradollano you can enjoy other activities: Ice skating, bike-slalom, Russian sled, downhill slides, mini-ski, mini-snow, archery, etc. The entertainment area is very popular with the younger or less skilled who want to have a fun time in Sierra Nevada.
If you are looking for other experiences in the snow you may find it interesting to ride on a snow mobile along certain fixed routes. You can also enjoy hiking trails off season either walking or cycling.
