The Port of Malaga

The port of Malaga is known for its outstanding facilities, being a commercial port, fishing port, marina, cruise port, port for loading and unloading of containers, etc., all thanks to its up to 9 Piers.

Cruise port

It is increasingly common for many cruises to include Malaga as an interesting stopover in their itineraries because of the technology and infrastructure of the port that allows several cruise ships to dock at the same time. Typically cruise passengers arriving in Malaga visit the city centre and depending on the time available take a means of transportation to visit other towns in the province such as Marbella, Antequera, Ronda or Mijas.

Pier One and Pier Two

With the renovation of Pier 1 and Pier 2, the port of Malaga has become one of the places in town that are worth visiting. A walk through the facilities of these two Piers is highly recommended, not only for the beautiful panorama offered by the modern infrastructure of the docks, but because you will be in company of huge cruise ships, sailboats and an area of ​​restaurants, coffee shops and quality shops.

Among the restaurants are: Foster’s Hollywood, seafood restaurant Godoy, Gorki, Pub la Sureña, El Capitán Garfio, O Mamma Mía, Kuorum, among many others. Furthermore there are the following: Lacoste, Six, Stylo, Décimas, Nautilus, eme & ene, etc.

Other points of interest are the playground, the Capilla de la Virgen del Puerto built in the eighteenth century and the lighthouse La Farola, these three located at Pier One; and the Museo Alborania – Aula del Mar located at Pier Two.

Transport from the Port

The port of Malaga is located near the centre and the old town of the city and also near Estación Muelle Heredia with many buses coming from different municipalities as Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola among others. It is also located not more than a hundred meters from the Alameda Principal where are arriving and departing a large number of buses to many destinations. In the future there will be a subway station in this area; while it is possible to go by suburban train it´s not the best option as the nearest station just over 700 meters away.

Parking

You can also go to the port with your own car or rent one at Malaga airport; you won´t have parking problems as Pier One has more than 30,000 square meters reserved as parking area.
